 What Is The Adoption process?

*Submit your online adoption application - PLEASE do not forget to call your vet and give them permission to release your information to us. Failure to do so will cause a delay in processing your application.

* If you already have pets in your home, they must be up to date on their vaccinations & altered.

* Dogs are required to be up to date on their DHPP, Rabies, heartworm testing/prevention, flea prevention and yearly wellness exams. They must also show a consistent record of care with their vet.

*Applicants must have insurance that covers the breed of dog they are applying for, including renters.

*Cats must have received initial kitten vaccines. Cats that are allowed outdoors must be up to date on rabies and other vaccines and receive FIV and FeLV Testing.

*Once the reference & vet checks are completed and approved, we will be in contact to schedule a home visit and/or meet & greet with the animal you are interested in. All members of the family including any current pets must be present during the home visit/meet & greet.

*Based on your references, home visit and meet & greet, we will approve or deny your application to adopt or recommend a different animal who may be a better fit for your home.

*If approved, we will set up a date for you to adopt your new companion animal. If an animal is not yet spayed/neutered, we will set up your adoption for a time after they have been altered. We will not adopt out any animal until they have been spayed/neutered unless the animal is determined, by our veterinarian, unable to be spayed/neutered due to a medical condition or that it would be a danger to their well being.

*There are often  multiple applications filled out for the same animal. In these cases our decision on which applicant adopts the animal is based solely on the best situation for that animal after all home visits, meet & greets and reference checks are complete. If you are not selected to adopt one particular animal, it does not mean you can't adopt from us if your adoption application has been approved. We will work with you to find another animal in our rescue who will be the best fit for your home.

* All potential adopters must be no further than a one hour drive of Tonawanda, NY. We will consider adoptions further than one hour away for certain animals & those cases will be reviewed on an individual basis. Distance & time are calculated using zip code 14150.

* Buffalo CARES Animal Rescue reserves the right to deny any application for any reason.
