Description:

Earn your wings, Clarence; !!

At this time of year, we are reminded that not everyone has such “A Wonderful Life”. Our friends, 2 legged and 4 legged, need a little help. This is true of our little foster girl Helen (aka Little Bean or Libby).

This “little bean” was an only kitten when she came to Buffalo CARES a few months ago.  She weighed all of 1.4 pounds with a congenital condition called “eyelid agenesis”.

About 6 weeks ago, Helen had her left eye removed because she was blind in that eye.  Her right eye provides only limited sight.  She can clearly see movement & shapes, and can follow my hand, or face, when I look into her eye.  She chases her toys, and runs after the other kittens or bats at their tails.  Apparently she never got the memo on her disability. She is plucky and she has not allowed this to slow her down at all!

In spite of this “Little Bean” is one very special kitten. She is very affectionate and purrrrrs very loudly and continuously when around people. She is very petite with sleek, black, shiny fur, like a panther.  She is very agile and loves to chase colorful little springs or small balls with bells inside of them. Helen is very good at jumping off of the bed in her room, and she likes to lie in the sun on a table by the window. Recently, much to her joy and delight, she had several kitten friends as playmates.  She chased & tumbled, roughhoused & played with them, until they all fell into a kitten pile to sleep.  Happily those kittens have all been adopted into loving families; but now Helen is alone waiting for her family.

To find out more about her condition; please Google® “Feline Eyelid Agenesis” or click this link for more information. http://vetbook.org/wiki/cat/index.php/Eyelid_Agenesis

Because of her “special needs” Helen will need help to keep her eye from being damaged.  Her inability to produce her own tears, or blink to keep the eye clean, means she will need “artificial tears” drops for the rest of her life.

'Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings.'

Won’t you ring Helen’s bell?

Helen's adoption fee is $50.00.
